Roots, Rituals & Me is an engaging, hands-on exploratory class for tweens and teens ages 10–15 who want to explore Jewish history, culture, Hebrew, traditions, identity, and community in a welcoming and meaningful environment.

This is not a traditional religious education or Hebrew school class. Instead, students will learn through conversation, creativity, exploration, and experiences that bring Judaism to life. Throughout the session, students may bake traditional foods, create projects, play games, learn Hebrew, explore Jewish history and traditions, participate in service projects, and connect with other Jewish youth.

At the heart of the class is an opportunity for students to explore their own relationship with Judaism. Together, we’ll consider questions such as:

  • What does Judaism mean to me?

  • How do Jewish traditions connect to my life today?

  • Where do I fit within my Jewish community?

  • How does my personal story connect to the larger Jewish story?

A Welcoming Space for Every Family

There is no one “right” way to be Jewish. Roots, Rituals & Me welcomes Jewish families of all backgrounds, including interfaith families and families who are exploring or developing their Jewish connection.

Our goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their perspectives, learning from one another, and discovering what Judaism means to them.

Whether your child has participated in Jewish education for years, is new to exploring their Jewish identity, or simply wants to learn more about their heritage and culture, they are welcome here.

What Students Can Expect

Students will have opportunities to:

  • Explore Jewish history, culture, and traditions

  • Learn foundational Hebrew in an engaging way

  • Participate in hands-on activities and creative projects

  • Cook and bake Jewish foods

  • Play games and participate in interactive learning

  • Explore questions of identity and belonging

  • Participate in meaningful service projects

  • Build friendships and connect with other Jewish youth

  • Develop a deeper and more personal connection to Judaism
